For two years, I measured my daughters' heights on the kitchen doorway, using a pencil to scratch in their names and the date. Then we moved. This mirror was my solution to making sure our family archives would never again be left behind. Lay the mirror on the floor. Unroll the measuring tape and, using Scotch tape, stick the end of the measuring tape near the bottom left corner of the mirror's frame, next to where the reflective surface starts. Run the measuring tape up to the top of the mirror and tape it to the top left corner of the frame. Now that your guide is in place, draw 2-inch-long lines with a paint marker at each foot interval, using the ruler as a straightedge. Then draw 1-inch-long lines at each inch interval in a different color, and 1/2-inch-long lines at the half-inch intervals in a third color. Put a number sticker on a large dot sticker, then place the corresponding numbered dot at each foot mark, beginning at the bottom of the mirror with "1." To hang the mirror, measure 1 foot off the floor with the ruler and make a pencil mark at that point. Using the mounting hardware, hang the mirror so that the 1-foot mark on the mirror (not the edge of the frame) lines up with the pencil mark. Mark your kids' heights and the date using a paint marker, smaller dot stickers, or both, along the mirror's left side. Full-length plastic-framed mirror ($6, Target)
