Green Day
print

That limp bunch of celery that's been in the fridge for weeks? It's your child's next houseplant. Best for preschoolers, but older kids may find it strangely compelling too.
Materials
- 1 bunch celery (whatever remains from a full bunch is fine)
- Bowl, about 5 to 6 inches across and at least 4 inches deep
Instructions
Step 1
Cut the top two-thirds off the celery and discard.
Step 2
Pour 2 inches of water into the bowl.
Step 3
Stand bottom of the celery in the bowl so that the water goes about halfway up the bulb.
Step 4
Add fresh water every other day. In about 5 days, new leaves will start to grow on the inside of the trunk. Pull off outer stalks as they brown, and watch inside leaves flourish.
